American Family Outing

A collaborative project with Soulforce, the National Black Justice Coalition and the Universal Fellowship of Metropolitan Community Churches. During the 6 weekends between Mother's Day and Father's Day, the American Family Outing will visit 6 US cities to spark dialogue about faith and families at some of the country's largest mega-churches.

Act OUT: The National LGBT Family Conference

This weekend long conference brought together youth and adults with LGBT parents, LGBT families, queer folks, and allies for community, education and activism. Co-sponsored with Family Equality Council. Highlights included the First Ever COLAGE Chapter Institute with representation from eleven chapters nationwide, a Leadership track focused on movement and skill building for young adults and adults with LGBT parents, a fabulous Halloween dance, and more.

COLAGE was happy to participate in this fun-filled day with programs and workshops for youth in middle and high school groups and their LGBT parents. An enthusiastic team of local adult COLAGErs worked with the COLAGE Program Director to offer games, discussions, art, martial arts, leadership and activism training, films and COLAGE community to youth from across Minnesota and Wisconsin.

LGBT Family Visibility Event At The White House Egg Roll, April 2006
COLAGE partnered with Family Equality Council and other organizations to help use the annual White House Egg Roll as an opportunity for increased visibility of LGBT families.

COLAGE was happy to participate in this fun-filled day with programs
and workshops for youth of all ages and
their LGBT parents. At this year’s conference, the Pop Luck
Club sponsored their annual LGBT Parenting Resource Fair, an
expo-style
event that brings together a group of experts to provide family
building information to the LGBT community.
COLAGE at Mountain Meadow Summer Camp, August 2005
COLAGE was excited to partner
with Mountain Meadow summer camp in August 2005! Mountain Meadow is a
progressive and diverse community that offers children of lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender, queer and other non-traditional families and
their allies, regardless of income, programming dedicated to
recognizing and challenging different forms of oppression and
intolerance. During a week of COLAGE programming, almost 80 Mountain
Meadow campers participated in fun and diverse COLAGE activities.

Building Blocks, Southern California LGBT Family Conference in Los Angeles, June 2005
COLAGE was thrilled to
participate in the second annual Southern California conference for
LGBT families. We co-sponsored this fantastic event with the Family
Services Program of the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. Highlights
included youth development and arts programming for youth ages 9- 16, a
great line-up of parent workshops, fun activities for younger children,
and a powerful COLAGE Youth Panel at the end of the day.
Metro DC LGBT Family
and Parenting Conference, April 2005
In April 2005, COLAGE joined
with Whitman Walker Clinic and the Family Equality Council Coalition to present a
one-day Metro DC Regional LGBT Family Conference. 19 youth ages 8 - 19
participated in COLAGE activities featuring games, movies, art,
leadership and public speaking training and a lot of fun. The day
culminated with a COLAGE Young Adult panel allowing the conference
participants to hear directly from youth with LGBT parents about the
true experiences of the kids in our families.

Texas LGBT Family Conference in Dallas, February 2005
COLAGE participated in the
first-ever one-day LGBT Family conference in Dallas, Texas. 33 youth
ages 9-19 participated in the COLAGE program, most of whom had never
before been in a space with other youth with LGBT parents!
Lambda Families New Jersey Conference, October 2005
COLAGE was ecstatic to
participate in a one-day event for LGBT families, for the first time in
its history offering activities for older youth with LGBT parents. 24
youth ages 8 and up spent the day in COLAGE workshops- talking about
their families, experiences in school, leadership and activism, all
while having a great time with adult facilitators who have LGBT
parents! At the end of the day, the entire conference was treated to a
panel of teens with LGBT parents sharing their experiences and wisdom.

Families in the Desert, September 2005
In September 2005, COLAGE was
proud to be a part of the annual Families in the Desert event in Palm
Springs, CA. Youth with LGBT parents participated in workshops, a water
park field trip, a movie night, pool party and much more with COLAGE
Adult facilitators. The weekend event also featured two screenings of
In My Shoes: Stories of Youth with LGBT Parents as well as fun events
for the entire family to enjoy.
