Chief Legal and Policy Officer
Meg York (she/her) is a senior attorney and national thought leader in LGBTQ+ family law and civil liberties, with over a decade of experience in litigation, policy advocacy, and teaching. Before joining COLAGE, she served as Chief Counsel, LGBTQ+ Family Law and Policy at Family Equality, defending marriage equality, advocating for updated parentage laws, protecting access to gender-affirming care, advancing reproductive rights and healthcare coverage, and supporting inclusive schools.
Meg previously served as Lead Clinical Attorney and Professor of Law at Vermont Law and Graduate School, where she launched and directed Vermont’s first LGBTQ+ family law clinic and successfully litigated the state’s first non-binary gender marker on an initial birth certificate. Her career spans private, solo, and public defense practice, representing children and parents in high-stakes family law matters. In 2023, she was named one of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s 40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40.
Meg lives in the brave little state of Vermont with her wife and three COLAGErs. Outside of work, she enjoys swimming, hiking, downhill skiing, and spending time with the best queer family in the world (an entirely unbiased assessment).
