Transformative Justice Committee

The COLAGE Transformative Justice Committee, founded 2020, is an organizational entity that serves the purpose of addressing harm including racism, transphobia, ableism, microaggressions, and other relational and structural harm.  As a social justice organization committed to substantive justice and change, COLAGE is dedicated to embodying the politics that we teach. This entity will serve as a formal body tasked with ensuring that our leaders and community members uphold COLAGE values of justice and equity for all.  As COLAGErs, we seek to create a space that protects one another from harm. We also know that inevitably we will cause injury to one another. While addressing harmful actions, the Transformative Justice Committee will adhere to the principles of transformative justice models, which treat every individual as a valuable – yet fallible – member of the community. The Committee will never implement measures that are punishment-oriented in nature, but instead strive for healing and accountability both individually and collectively. In practice, the people serving on this committee are committed to confidentiality and respecting all boundaries of the parties involved. As a formal infrastructure to hold harms accountable, the COLAGE Transformative Justice Committee reinforces our commitment to social justice that is substantive and enactable.
